Marriage Preparation - Overview

   
 

 

The marriage preparation courses of the Archdiocese of New York are generally in two formats: a Two-Day format, and a Four-Evening format.

If you're taking one of the Two Days, your schedule might be something like this:
9:30 a.m. Registration
9:45 introductions
10:00 presentation with Couple Exercises
10:55 break
11:00 presentation with Couple Exercises
12 noon lunch
1:00 p.m. presentation with Couple Exercises
1:55 break
2:00 presentation with Couple Exercises
2:55 break
3:00 presentation with Couple Exercises
4:00 evaluations and certificates
4:30 dismissal

The Four-Evening schedule would be similar to this for each session:

7:00 p.m. Registration and introductions (or 7:30 p.m., depending on the location)
7:15 presentation with Couple Exercises
8:05 break
8:10 presentation with Couple Exercises
9:00 dismissal

The topics covered  over the complete course are listed below.  Individual full-day or evening sessions will cover some, but not all of these topics.

- Problem-solving

- Issues from Family of Origin

- Dealing with In-Laws

- Finances

- Parenting/Children

- Family Planning

- Sexuality

- Marriage as a Sacrament

- Loving as God loves

- Persons in the image and likeness of God

- The meaning of life (really!)
